Early Years Pupil Premium 2022-23
Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) is additional funding available for early years settings to improve the education they provide for disadvantaged 3 and 4 year olds. In Lincolnshire this is an extra 53p per hour on top of the universal funding for 3 and 4 year olds, for children whose parents/carers are in receipt of certain benefits or who have been in care or adopted from care.
Early Years Pupil Premium is used to enhance the quality of education we provide for your child. We have used it to fund external courses for staff to increase their knowledge and skills in supporting speech and language, such as using Makaton with all children. Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.
We have used EYPP to fund weekly music and dance lessons for all children, with a specialist music teacher. These had to stop during the Covid pandemic, but we have just re-started them (November 22) with Miss Hannah from Hannah Simmons Dance Company.
We also use EYPP to take children on trips out to Rand Farm Park, to experience a working farm and further develop their vocabulary and language skills. (December 22)
During the National Lockdowns in 2020 we used EYPP to provide additional staff so we could keep our children safe in separate bubbles and provide high quality teaching input, particularly in speaking and listening.
This year, 2022 - 23, we are using EYPP to continue to support children's communication and language development with enhanced staffing and additional resources, such as new books and games and our Christmas trip to Rand Farm Park.
